How to improve your work-life balance? Here are some tips!

WORK-LIFE BALANCE – Most of the time, work takes over our life and here are some tips in improving the balance between these two significant things.

When work takes full control of our life, this is followed by burnout and burnout may have negative impacts on our healthy physically and mentally. There will be times when we don’t know what to do and how to handle stress at work but the key to this is balancing two significant things – work life and personal life.

In maintaining the balance between the work life and personal life, one must first work in putting up a clear and solid boundary between them. Other things to maintain the good balance is taking breaks, consuming your vacation leave, doing your hobbies and interests, and among others.

Some of the reasons that sabotage this balance are:

  • increased responsibilities at work
  • working longer hours
  • increased responsibilities at home
  • having children

Now, here are some tips in improving this:

  • Start by accepting that there’s no perfect balance between these two. Don’t strive for perfection, instead, strive for a more realistic one.
  • Have a pause and assess how various parts of your life affect each other. As yourself these questions:
    • Am I spending enough quality time doing what I really want? 
    • Do I still feel aligned with my professional or personal goals? Why or why not?
  • Identify what you want to prioritize. Focus your perspective on what really matters and make sure to make your health your priority. Your overall physical, emotional and mental health should be your main concern.
  • Time management is one essential key.
  • Do what you love for a living. This can make a great difference. It doesn’t have to be the perfect one. You don’t need to love every aspect of it, what you just need is one that will make you excited enough to do it.
  • Have a time off for a while and cut ties with the outside world. This will allow us to recover from stress and provide us space for other things and thoughts.

Balance is very personal and this is different from one another as we have different commitment and priorities. What you need is to determine what your needs are and a job that can help you meet them.
